Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children’s language development. Engaging in rich and meaningful conversations is one of the most powerful strategies parents can use to expand their children’s language skills. The session will focus on the foundational strategies that build vocabulary, expand sentences, improve comprehension and promote thinking skills. In this question-and-answer session, speech-language pathologists will present conversational strategies that build language and answer questions parents may have about using these strategies with their children.

HYBRID SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Time: All Day

It's book fair time! This year we are able to have a 'hybrid' book fair: books will be set up for viewing/purchase in the library by students and staff only, but also available online for purchase by parents. I am told that the merchandise in person and online will be 95% the same. The online portion of the book fair will be open from October 21 - November 2 at this website:  https://virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5147436 . Don't forget that the items will ship directly to your house.

Students will be able to view the books and bring home a list of the items they are interested in; and be able to purchase books at school by bringing money and their list in a sealed envelope/ziplock bag. I will collect the envelopes in the morning and deliver purchases to students in the afternoon. This will allow us to continue keeping all school cohorts separate. The last day for in-school purchases will be Monday, November 1.

As in past bookfairs, the teachers will be able to make up wish lists for books they would love to have in their classroom. If you are interested in purchasing a book for your child's class please email Mme Milanovic (jennifer.milanovic@eips.ca) or call the main school number to talk to me (780-998-3741). Instead of publishing the lists and risking people purchasing doubles, I will have the lists here and let you know what you could purchase.

Remember, this is our English book fair. There will be very few French books at it. We will have a French focused book fair in February.

Circle of Security Parenting™
Audience: Parents/Caregivers

At times, all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

Learning objectives of the training:

  • Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read their emotional needs.
  • Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions.
  • Enhance the development of your child's self-esteem.
  • Honour your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure.

This will be a series of sessions that build on one another—October 26 and November 23. There will be a limit to the group size, but we’ll try to accommodate anyone interested through additional sessions.
